Privacy Policy

GhatGo (“GhatGo,” “we,” “us”) is the data controller for personal information collected through ghatgo.com. You can reach us at services@ghatgo.com for any privacy-related query.

We only collect information that is necessary to operate the booking platform:

• Account & contact details: name, mobile number, email address and (where you choose to provide it) profile photo. For Google sign-in we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google.
• Booking details: boat selection, boarding ghat, date and time, number of guests, special requests, and the booking reference.
• Payment information: processed by Cashfree. We receive only the payment status and a transaction reference; we do not store full card or bank account details on our servers.
• Communication records: SMS / OTP delivery status (via MSG91), transactional emails we send to you, and any messages exchanged with our support team.
• Device & usage data: IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, pages visited and timestamps, collected through standard server logs and lightweight analytics.
• Cookies & local storage: used to keep you signed in, remember preferences and improve the site. See “Cookies” below.

We do not knowingly collect any sensitive personal data such as financial account numbers, biometric data, or health information. Please do not send such data to us.

• To create and manage your account.
• To process and confirm bookings, send OTPs, tickets and reminders.
• To collect payment, issue refunds and prevent fraud.
• To respond to your support enquiries and operational issues at the ghat.
• To improve the platform, debug issues and analyse aggregate usage.
• To send service messages (booking changes, weather cancellations) and, with your consent, occasional offers and updates.
• To comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests from authorities.

We process personal information on one or more of the following bases: performance of the contract you enter into with us when booking a ride, your consent (for example, marketing emails), our legitimate interests in running and improving the platform, and compliance with our legal obligations.

We share information only where necessary, and only with:

• Boat operators handling your booking — they receive your name, party size, contact number and ride details so they can identify you at the ghat.
• Partner hotels — if your booking originated through a hotel, they may receive a status update for that booking.
• Service providers who help us run the platform, including Cashfree (payments), MSG91 (SMS / OTP), our SMTP email provider, AWS (hosting and object storage) and analytics tools. They process information only on our instructions.
• Authorities when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property or safety of GhatGo, our customers or the public.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

We use a small number of cookies and local-storage entries:

• Essential — keep you logged in, hold a draft booking, secure sessions and protect against abuse. The site does not work properly without these.
• Preferences — remember your last boarding ghat, party size or other UI choices.
• Analytics — help us understand how visitors find and use the site so we can improve it. These are aggregated and not used to identify individuals.

You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings. Doing so may sign you out and reset your preferences.

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it. Booking records are typically retained for up to seven years to meet tax, accounting and dispute requirements. Inactive accounts may be deleted or anonymised after extended periods of inactivity. You can ask us to delete your account at any time (see “Your Rights” below); we may still retain limited records where the law requires.

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information — encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, scoped access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure: please use a strong, unique password and notify us immediately if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account.

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct or update inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Request deletion of your account and personal information.
• Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time.
• Object to or restrict certain processing.
• Lodge a complaint with the appropriate data-protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, write to services@ghatgo.com from the email address associated with your account. We will respond within a reasonable time and may verify your identity before acting on the request.

GhatGo is not intended for children under 18. Bookings on behalf of minors must be made by an adult. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have done so inadvertently, please contact us and we will delete it.

Our infrastructure is hosted primarily in India (AWS Mumbai). Some of our service providers may process data in other regions. Wherever data is processed, we require appropriate contractual safeguards to protect it.

The site may link to third-party websites (for example, Google or social media platforms). We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices — please review their policies separately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at ghatgo.com/privacy with the “Last updated” date at the top. For material changes we will make reasonable efforts to notify you in advance.
