Distance, route and drive time

Prayagraj is about 120 km from Varanasi. The fastest route is NH19 (Varanasi → Allahabad), which is in good condition for the entire stretch. Typical drive time is 3 hours in a sedan or SUV, slightly more in a Traveller or Urbania, and a bit longer in monsoon if there is standing water along the highway. For a relaxed same-day trip, leave Varanasi by 6–7 AM.

Combined Ayodhya + Prayagraj trip

The combined Ayodhya + Prayagraj package is a popular choice for pilgrims. It starts at ₹8,000 in a Swift Dzire and ranges up to ₹21,500 in an Urbania. The standard itinerary is:

  • Day 1: Varanasi → Ayodhya (220 km, ~5h). Darshan at Ram Mandir, Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan; overnight in Ayodhya.
  • Day 2: Ayodhya → Prayagraj (~160 km, ~3h). Triveni Sangam, Anand Bhavan, Allahabad Fort; return to Varanasi by evening (~120 km, ~3h).

A more aggressive 1-long-day version is also possible if you start at 4 AM and treat Ayodhya and Prayagraj as quick darshans; the 2-day version is the more comfortable choice for families and older travellers.

What does the fare include?

  • Vehicle, driver and fuel for the route shown.
  • Standard taxes on the fare.
  • Driver allowances for the same-day return (Prayagraj-only) or for the package days.

Paid to the driver at actuals:

  • National and state highway tolls.
  • State permits where applicable.
  • Parking at temples, ghats and the Sangam.

Best vehicle to pick by group size

  • 1–4 passengers: Swift Dzire (most economical).
  • 5–6 passengers: Ertiga.
  • 5–7 passengers, more luggage: Innova Crysta or Kia Carens.
  • 8–12 passengers: AC Cruiser, City Line or Winger.
  • 12–17 passengers: Traveller (standard) or Urbania (premium).

What to plan for in Prayagraj

The unmissable stop is Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati. A short boat ride at the Sangam is the standard experience there. Pair this with Anand Bhavan (the Nehru family residence and museum), Allahabad Fort (Mughal-era fort on the riverbank, partly accessible) and Khusro Bagh if you have time. For Maha Kumbh / Magh Mela visits, plan separately and book the cab a few weeks in advance.
