Varanasi airport to city taxi: fare, pickup point and time
A taxi from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (Varanasi, IATA: VNS) to the city starts at ₹950 in a Swift Dzire and goes up to ₹3,300 in a Traveller or Urbania for large groups. The drive is about 25 km and takes ~45 minutes. A ₹300 night surcharge applies for boarding between 7:30 PM and 4:50 AM. You pay 25% online to confirm the booking and the rest to the verified driver at the hotel.

Where do I meet the driver?
Drivers wait at the arrivals concourse pickup zone outside the terminal. After payment, GhatGo sends you the driver’s phone, vehicle make / model and number plate by WhatsApp and email. The standard flow:
- Land and collect your luggage as usual.
- Step out to the pickup zone and call the driver on the number in the confirmation.
- Verify the number plate against the message and board.
- Pay the balance to the driver when you reach your hotel.
You will not see a desk inside the terminal — GhatGo runs as a pre-booked service, not a kiosk. Pre-booking is the only way to lock in the fare in advance.
How long does it take to reach the city?
The airport (LBSI / VNS, at Babatpur) is about 25 km from central Varanasi. The drive takes about 45 minutes in normal traffic. Plan for 60–75 minutes on busy festival evenings or during the 5–7 PM rush. Sarnath is on the route and can be added as a short stop if you have time (see our Varanasi to Sarnath guide).
What if my flight is delayed?
A reasonable free wait window is built into airport pickups; the driver tracks your flight from the booking record. For longer delays, message the driver and email services@ghatgo.com with your booking reference and revised arrival time — we can usually reassign a fresh driver at no extra cost. GhatGo does not auto-cancel or auto-reschedule the booking on your behalf; the change has to come through the email channel so we have a written record. Night and pre-dawn pickups
Most international and several domestic flights into Varanasi arrive late at night or before dawn. A flat ₹300 night surcharge applies when boarding is between 7:30 PM and 4:50 AM India time. Drivers are available across this window; book at least a few hours ahead so a verified driver is dispatched by the time you land.

- 1–3 passengers, light luggage: Swift Dzire — cheapest and quickest.
- 4 passengers with luggage: Ertiga — more boot space.
- 5–7 passengers or heavy luggage: Innova Crysta or Kia Carens — the standard hotel-shuttle choice.
- 8–12 passengers: AC Cruiser, City Line or Winger.
- 12–17 passengers or tour groups: Traveller or Urbania.
